A One Earth Green Team Interview With SPC's Very Own.....Jamie Hasemeier (though far away now, she is forever in our green hearts & minds!)

What is your favorite season and why?
My favorite season is autumn. I think I enjoy this time so much because I feel like nature slows down a bit and I feel like it's a good time to slow down and relax. The beauty of that time of year inspires me to do more to protect nature.

What do you think is the best green thing happening at SPC?
I think the Green Club is a force of positive eco change at SPC. The energy the Club brings to meetings could power a large city! They are incredible and they remain an inspiration to me, even though I am in St. Louis now.

What is your favorite environmental quote?
That's a tough one because there are so many incredible thoughts out there, but I would have to say...

Who inspires you to help the earth?
MY CHILDREN! Teaching them that the responsibility to care for each other and our planet rests on their shoulders. They deserve to hike in the forests, drink clean water, and eat healthy food, all of which are threatened by the selfish and greedy motives of many grown ups in the world. My wish is to make Earth healthy for them and for all kids.

Where on earth would you just love to vacation?
I would like to visit Spain. I would also like to go back to the Northwest and explore more of that part of our country-it's stunning.

Does your new school, Holy Redeemer, have a green club that you can be involved in?  If not, are you going to start one?
They do not have a Green Club- YET! I absolutely plan to start a club next year but Peter told me that I have to include every grade so he can be a part of it!

What is your favorite book or movie about the earth?
My favorite book is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss because I think it has a lesson for every person on the planet- young and old!

What is your proudest green moment?
The "No Idling Campaign" we worked on in January was a giant moment of pride and humility. The energy the Club put into the "Peaceful Picket", announcements and positive reinforcments likely changed a few hearts and minds about the responsibility of our actions.

What is your favorite healthy food?
I LOVE to snack on organic Fugi apples. Ruby loves them, too!

Currently I'm....
Extremly sleep deprived; settling into our life in St. Louis;  seeing our family more frequently; meeting new families at Holy Redeemer; missing our friends and "family" at SPC and Chicago; smiliing each time Clara, Peter, or John gives Ruby their love.

Did you grow up with all of your eco-friendly habits?
NO! These changes in my daily habits have evolved over the last ten years. Even Mark is helping the Earth these days-he's an avid composter. We hate to see things wasted!

My Family says I....
am passionate about protecting the Earth.

How do you spend your free time?
What free time?????? Who has it and where can I buy it?
Kidding-I love to read and take our family on interesting outings where they can learn and experience beauty. We just visited the St. Louis Symphony on Sunday and got to listen to a few beautiful classical pieces and then to a reading of "The Remarkable Farkle McBride" by John Lithgow. It was very memorable and everyone loved it, even Ruby! The music lulled her into a deep sleep. :)
